North Philadelphia has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the United States. “Co-sleeping” or “bed-sharing” with an infant is extremely dangerous. It can cause suffocation, rollover injuries, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and other risks—all are preventable.
The SAFE-T program provides safe sleep education and Baby Boxes to all mothers who deliver at the hospital. A Baby Box serves as a crib and comes with the essentials: clothes, blankets, a thermometer and more.
