Sustainability at Temple Rome

This semester Temple University Rome started the Sustainability on Campus project!

One very specific project that we would like to get off the ground is called the Temple Orto Botanico – our very own vertical garden! We are currently designating spots on campus where we will grow plants to be used in art classes, Italian language classes and cooking classes. What we do not use in class will be used to fertilizing and nurturing the plants – all to promote the idea of circular sustainability. Through our OwlCrowd initiative, we can buy the plants and the structures needed to create usable green spaces on campus.

As many of our Alumni know recycling has not been big in Italy - but things are changing – even on our campus! Our aim is to create a more sustainable Temple Rome through a revamped recycling program – allowing us to start recycling our glass, paper, metal and plastic in separate containers.

Water fountains are a very unique element in Rome's urbanization. Our water is both free and of excellent quality. Currently, the Temple Rome campus only has one water fountain to serve everyone. However, now that building renovations are complete, we would love to have an extra water fountain installed so our students can fill their reusable water bottles. By fully funding our project, we could add this extra water fountain to our campus and eliminate the need for disposable bottles.

A few examples of how your gift will be put to use include:

• $5: One edible plant (such as indian cress,oregano, rosemary and others) for the garden
• $25: One recycling or waste bin
• $70: Battery recycling bin
• $150: Electronics recycling services
• $200: Sprinkler system for the vertical garden
• $400: Structures and plant care apparatuses for the vertical garden
• $1,000: Purchasing and installing one new water fountain
