Student Scholars

College life is both tough and rewarding, and Temple donors are here for students when they need help. On this page you can be the change for a student who needs support or, as a student yourself, find the assistance you need.

Temple Owls faced unprecedented challenges over the last year as a result of global pandemic and widespread social change, and many of these issues persist today. Some face acute financial hardship and struggle to pay for essential needs like reliable internet, groceries and medicine. Others are extremely close to graduating but can’t cover tuition in their final semesters. Then there are Owls who worry about the long-term implications of taking on additional loans in order to pay for college.

Temple has identified four areas of support that can help address the issues above and make a profound impact in a student’s life.

If you’re a student who has reached this site looking for more information on how you can apply for financial aid benefits, read on to see what resources are available to you right now.

Fly in 4

College is typically a four-year experience, but some students take a bit longer, often incurring additional debt along the way. The Fly in 4 program is specifically designed to keep students on track to graduate in four years. To that end, Temple provides 500 need-based grants to incoming students, who receive $2,000 a semester beginning their freshman year. This reduces the need for outside income from part- or full-time jobs and allows Owls to concentrate on their studies, resulting in more students graduating on time. Your donation is a step toward eliminating long-term loan debt and ensures that students will soar in four.

Dr. Theresa Powell Student Emergency Aid Fund

The Student Emergency Aid Fund exists for one reason: to provide financial relief to students experiencing acute hardship. In the wake of COVID-19, most Temple students were required to move off campus, and many who returned home didn’t have adequate internet service to continue studies online. Some didn’t have a home to return to, creating an immediate need for housing. Others lost the full- or part-time jobs they worked to make ends meet while attending school. Donations to the Student Emergency Aid Fund are crucial for getting our most vulnerable students back on their feet and positioned for long-term success.

Broad Street Finish Line

The Broad Street Finish Line Scholarship is all about creating opportunity for students while they’re on campus. In 2019, Temple refocused two existing scholarship funds to provide support and access for those in need, with two distinct goals in mind: to extend the possibility of a superlative Temple education to first-generation students from Philadelphia and abroad, and to provide a lifeline for Owls experiencing a tuition gap in their final years of college. Your donation to the Broad Street Finish Line is critical to keeping the Temple student body both diverse and on track to graduate without additional debt.

General Scholarship Fund

The General Scholarship Fund provides a flexible method of extending financial awards to Temple students. Temple University was founded on the idea that diversity and accessibility are key to the very best learning experiences, and the General Scholarship Fund reduces financial barriers for promising students who may not have the means to fully pay for tuition. With 16% of the class of 2024 identifying as first-generation and 63% of current full-time undergraduate students receiving need-based aid, this fund is critical to attracting and retaining the brightest minds out there.
