Zion Cares for North Philadelphia

Zion Cares is a community ministry at Zion Baptist Church, located in North Philadelphia. In July of 2020, students from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine (LKSOM), responding to the disproportionate impact of the pandemic, launched an initiative to supply the community with free COVID-19 protection kits containing hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, toiletries and face masks. The kits also provide educational materials with information on the symptoms of the virus, where to get tested, and best practices to stay safe and minimize risk. At the distribution events, community members also receive a boxed lunch. Recently Zion Baptist Church was established as a COVID-19 vaccination site, expanding its partnership with LKSOM in service to the community.

A gift to the Zion Cares project will benefit one of the city’s most vulnerable populations, many of whom face challenges such as food insecurity, housing insecurity, substance use disorders, chronic health conditions and mental health disorders. Funding of the project will enable the LKSOM students to assemble 200 additional COVID-19 kits with educational materials and a boxed lunch.

With your most generous donation, we can purchase:

Custom face masks: $5
2 boxed lunches: $10
1 bulk hand sanitizer: $50
1 case of toothpaste: $65
5 complete COVID kits: $120

Thank you in advance for making a donation to this vital project. Your support will help ensure that the Zion Cares community continues to receive the supplies, support and education needed during this critical time.
