We’re currently accepting applications for the fall 2017 semester. The 45-day campaign will run from November 1 through December 15.
Applications for the fall 2017 semester are due by Monday, October 2, 2017. Applications can be completed online.
Any Temple University department or registered organization with a FOAPAL. Individual students, faculty or staff must have a sponsoring Temple University department/organization. For more information about this process, take a look at our Project Guide.
A FOAPAL (Fund, Organization, Account, Program, Activity, and Location) number is essentially a financial account that allows your student organization to secure funds through Temple University. The funds you raise through OwlCrowd will be administered through your FOAPAL, so it’s important to have one in place prior to the start of your campaign.
If your organization has been in place for a while, chances are you already have a FOAPAL. Check with your organization’s faculty advisor for information. If you don’t have a FOAPAL, your advisor should be able to tell you who to contact in order to set one up. In most cases, you’ll simply need to fill out an online form to get the process started. You’ll need the following information:
Official name of the student organization
Names to be included on the account
A description of what you plan to use the OwlCrowd funds for (the funds must go toward what you stated in the campaign)
A copy of your organization’s constitution or bylaws
Once your information has been submitted, your FOAPAL will typically be issued in 7-10 days. For more information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Temple Annual Giving recommends that project goals should be between $1,000 and $10,000 and be for tangible projects, not general program support.
Student organizations find that OwlCrowd uniquely gives them access to an audience of Temple contributors and alumni—those with ties to the university who want to contribute to their alma mater’s continued excellence. Keep in mind the following:
100% of the contributions go towards your funded project. OwlCrowd will not take a cut of the money raised.
Donors will receive tax credit by making a gift to Temple University, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
Because OwlCrowd is administered through the Temple Fund in Institutional Advancement, projects can be advertised on our alumni email marketing channels at least once per campaign.
Projects will receive all money raised and can apply for a future campaign. We encourage your organization to assess the campaign’s strengths and areas for improvement to increase your funding rate for the next campaign period.
We’re so glad you asked. Typically, projects with a tangible, relatable goal will do well, especially when your fundraising team (classmates, alumni, friends, faculty) is heavily active and involved. Best practices include promoting your project through regular and widespread social media posts, sending fundraising emails to previous contributors, and communicating with those in a position to help spread the word and influence potential contributors. No. While we suggest you focus on one campaign at a time for maximum success, you can run new campaigns every semester if you wish. Keep in mind, however, that OwlCrowd typically chooses a variety of campaigns from semester to semester. If you choose to be involved in more than one campaign at a time, be sure to get plenty of support to ensure you give each project the attention it needs to be successful.
We’ve set up OwlCrowd to correspond with the fall and spring semesters, when most students are active and on campus. We’ve found that this leads to more active and successful fundraising, but we realize that the ideas for campaigns don’t stop flowing when the semester ends. Have a great idea in the summer or over the winter holidays? Breaks are the perfect time to get in touch with other students you’d like on your team and to start planning your strategy and goals. By the time OwlCrowd rolls around, you’ll be ready to kick off a project that’s already set up for success.
