Temple University’s College Bound Academy will address the educational disparity experienced by youth in foster care, residing in the Philadelphia area. The program is designed to address the issue at critical stages of adolescent development, times in which they are at most risk for dropping out of school, most influenced by positive and negative peer influences, and when academics are most important in terms of preparing for college and career options. Rising 9th and 10th grade youth will participate in a year-round pre-college program, culminating in a week-long, overnight summer camp program. Former foster care youth in college will be engaged in the mentoring and community service aspect of this initiative.

Temple University faculty and staff facilitate workshops that promote self-discovery and reflection and exploration of career options, which ultimately set the youth on a path to obtain a college education.

This program is supported through Temple’s Center for Social Policy and Community Development (CSPCD), and you can help make a difference in the futures of these Philadelphia children.

For these foster care youth with limited resources, your donation will be used throughout the week-long program in life-changing ways:

$100 can support outlets for physical activity for each student, like sport equipment, games, and access to a swimming pool
$50 can provide one student with personal items for day-to-day living such as evening snacks, toiletries, sheets, towels and pillows
$40 can take one student on tours of the campuses of Temple University and other local colleges
$25 can provide one student with academic essentials like a book bag, dictionary, journal, binders, pens, and a calculator
$13 can send one student to a special event like a movie at Philadelphia’s Pearl Theater

Donations of all sizes will help contribute to our ending celebration, capping off the successful year.
